Errangs & Earrings

I recently was commissioned by a very talented friend to put together some shots for her Etsy.com shop, and I am very pleased with how the images turned out. It was interesting to see what I had laying around the house to slap some jewelry on that was as fun as the jewelry itself. I love the originality and funk that she pours out all over each piece that she handcrafts.... Like her business name says.... She has earrings and then she has EAR-RANGS.... Check her out on Facebook and "like" her page Earrangs & Earrings. You never know when you might need a little earrang in your life....

Crochet or not to crochet....

Etsy.... Oh Etsy.... What can I say about Etsy.... Etsy, you are good for my creative soul. You remind me to throw away that old box I keep my mind trapped in and reach out for more cleverness and all things vintage. If you have not fallen into the wonderful world of Etsy.com, I highly recommend it. It's good for the mind, body and soul. So much creativity and hard work poured out all over the screen.
So with the ooey gooey creativity oozing all over, I naturally found myself feeling a bit intimidated with a twinge of "keeping up with the Joneses" sprinkled on top. I have a hand full of newborn sessions booked in the next month or so, and Etsy has taught me that I cannot shoot another infant without placing a fantastically crocheted hat on the child's head. The only problem is that these fantastically crocheted hats come with a not so fantastic price and that is not up my alley at all. If my dear, sweet, southern mother were writing this she would say I have a case of "Champagne taste with a Coca~Cola budget".... And she would be right. So in the spirit of the new 2011 and new spending habits, I am going to tackle this one on my own. Wish me luck! I will now pull a rabbit out of my hat and crochet infant hats from trial and error~ Who has the time to learn how to properly read a pattern anyway???? Ready~Set~Crochet!

P-U-N-C-Y

Puncy: A word originated in the early 1980’s by an over dramatic child from Racine, Wisconsin (me). Historians (my mother) claim that the word was developed by the child combining “puny” (pyū'nē) and “teency” (tee'ncē) together to form what is now defined by some (my family) as the super word for all things “extremely small and adorable”. We will now use puncy in a sentence to help drive home the true definition of this amazing and all encompassing word......

“The new business rep cards for Blue Photography came today, and man are they PUNCY!!”

~Blue Honors~

Each new year brings with it new dedications and the best of intentions. So! With the spirit of the new year and a renewed focus in mind, Blue Photography is looking to celebrate those who could use a little celebration in life. What exactly does that mean??? Basically Blue Photography is looking to celebrate family. With the recent loss of my own Southern Matriarch, I have a deeper appreciation and respect for photography. In the end sometimes all you have left to hold is a picture...
Blue Photography is looking to give back to those who have stories of courage, accomplishment, friendship, loss, love, basically stories of real life families/individuals and their journey, struggles, fails and accomplishments.

I want to shy away from words like "Contest" and "Give-a-way", because I feel that life shouldn't be a contest of who-has-the-best story... So! Votes are in and the decision has been made to call our new celebration ~Blue Honors~.

How Blue Honors Works:
  • Fist step is to visit www.bluebyrachel.com and send me an email message of your own story or the story of someone that you know. Send me stories of individuals/families that you feel could use some celebration this year. I am not looking for essays or dissertations, but just a short message about who you think Blue should honor and why. All those wishing to be considered need to keep in mind that Blue Photography is located in SE Wisconsin. You will need to live in the area or able to drive to the area in order to complete the session.
  • Next step will be the hard part... Blue Photography will pick a family/individual to be the winner of the first ~Blue Honors~.
All ~Blue Honors~ recipients are given:
  • A fun full session shoot with Blue
  • A DVD of the session with Blue and full legal rights to the photos (so you can get to printin' and celebratin' your life with all of your friends and family)
  • A spot on our new website with your inspiring story and images for others to see and to be encouraged by.
Your life, your story and Blue Photography wants to celebrate with you

It's fun... It's free... It's worth honoring.....

*Session times and dates are to be determined by Blue Photography and the ~Blue Honors~ recipient*

When your BFF gets married, buys a house and has some kids......

I had the outstanding pleasure to get together with my loooooooooooooooooooooooong time BFF and her family yesterday for some impromptu what-am-i-going-to-do-with-my-life type counseling sessions (for me, not her lol) and cookie making. Lots of cookies, lots of laughing, lots of personality, and lots-o-love in the room.... Oh! And scary stories told with flashlights to drive the SCARY part home.... It is so incredible the way time passes and you go from "Cakes" to "Auntie Cakes" and your friends children are the ones with the upstairs giant loft bedroom.... Here is to a new year and a renewed dedication to keeping in touch.... Ole!

Finish well.....

2 Timothy 4:7

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith...

My Grandmother Josephine Wheeler Bean passed away on December 14th, 2010. She is an incredible example of what a Wife, Daughter, Sister, Mother, Aunt, Grandmother and Friend should be. Most of all, she always made sure to put her savior, Jesus Christ, first in her life. She undoubtedly finished well......
